Kiama - Director

Hi! I'm Kiama!

Why did I join FWCC?

I initially began volunteering after I heard about the Back to School Bash FWCC was preparing for.  I came to drop off school supplies one day and have been hooked ever since! I love the mission of the organization and I couldn’t be happier with the way every member of FWCC actively works to create positive change in our community.

My favorite task at FWCC is:

My favorite task at FWCC is building emergency bags. I love being able to find curated pieces for the people we build the bags for. In that experience, I really get an opportunity to give back a little bit of love and care that I think everyone deserves to feel in this world.

My personal goals for FWCC are:

My personal goal for FWCC is to continue to bring volunteers with a passion for the community and reducing textile waste into the program. This is so we can extend our outreach to as many communities as possible.

My business goals for FWCC are:

My business goal is to expand our venture so that we are eventually able to sustain daily operating hours and can meet the needs of more community members.

Where do I think FWCC will be in one year? In five years?

In 1 year, I see FWCC having extended operating hours to serve more community members. In 5 years, I see us having multiple locations spanning across Tarrant County.

Marielys Farrer

Hi, I'm Marielys!

My first encounter with Fort Worth Community Collaborative was in October 2023, during the Youth Pride Fest, when my family and I were in need of clothing support. What started as receiving help turned into a mission to give back. Since that day, my daughters and I have volunteered side by side, and today I serve as the organization’s Volunteer Coordinator. With years of volunteer work behind me, I am passionate about encouraging others to join us in building a stronger, more caring community.

Alex Strawn

Hi, I'm Alex!

I love all things horror, thrifting, exploring museums, and hanging with my kitties and tortoise.

Paula  Fukuhara

Hi, I'm Paula!

I’m thrilled to join the organization as a Customer Service Representative volunteer. I work full-time for the City of Fort Worth and am also pursuing a Master of Public Administration part-time. In my spare time, I enjoy life with my three dogs—they keep things lively and keep me grounded. I love finding new ways to give back and stay connected to the Fort Worth community.

Melissa Sevier

Hi, I'm Melissa!

I love traveling, decorating for holidays, and 90's rap. I'm also the official Discount Detective for my family and friends - if anyone is ever shopping for something I can always find a better deal! Always. Who pays full price these days?
Fun fact: Dorie's husband drops off our lunch sometimes and I believed for a brief period he was actually the pizza man!

Tracy Colbert
Hey, I'm Tracy!

Why did I join FWCC?

I decided to join the FWCC after my daughter, Kiama Cavazos, returned from her first volunteer event – the FWCC’s Back to School Bash- overflowing with excitement and inspiration.  The way she spoke about her experience, with such passion and positivity, deeply moved me and inspired me to become part of the change.

My favorite task at FWCC is:

Building emergency bags is one of the most meaningful things I have done at FWCC.  I take great care n choosing not just the essentials, but also small, thoughtful items that remind the recipient they are worthy, seen, and cared for- because everyone deserves to feel that way, especially in times of crisis.

My personal goal for FWCC is:

My personal goal for FWCC is for it to be a name and organization that lives in hearts, not just homes.  I believe that we can continue to grow our volunteer base and network.

My business goal for FWCC is:

FWCC has the power to reach countless communities with larger organizations that share our mission-working together to meet real needs and create lasting impact where it’s needed most.

Where do I see FWCC in 1 year? 5 years?

I envision FWCC hosting a variety of in-person and virtual events that not only expand our reach but also deepen our impact-helping the organization grow stronger and touch even more lives in the year ahead.

In five years, I see FWCC serving as a beacon of support, connection, and empowerment for the communities throughout Tarrant County and beyond.
