Why We Created Cowtown Catwalk
When most people think of a fashion show, they think of trends, designers, and runway lights.
At Fort Worth Community Collaborative, we see something more.
We see families finding clothing they can afford. We see community members choosing secondhand over new purchases. We see volunteers sorting donations that might otherwise end up in a landfill, and we see an opportunity to tell a bigger story about dignity, sustainability, and caring for one another.
That's why we're excited to introduce Cowtown Catwalk, our upcoming fashion show fundraiser on July 11. This will be our first year, but hope to make this our annual fundraiser!
The Story Behind the Runway
When FWCC was founded in 2022, our mission was simple: connect people with clothing and ensure that everyone has access to basic necessities with dignity and respect.
Over the years, we have distributed tens of thousands of donated items through community pop-ups and our storefront. Along the way, we noticed something surprising.
Many of the donations arriving at our doors were beautiful, high-quality items with plenty of life left in them. Brand-name pieces, designer labels, and clothing that had been worn only a handful of times were showing up alongside everyday essentials.
At the same time, we continued to meet families struggling to afford clothing, shoes, food, hygiene products, and other basic needs.
The contrast was impossible to ignore.
Fashion Has a Waste Problem
Every year, billions of garments are produced worldwide, yet millions of tons of clothing end up in landfills despite being wearable and usable.
The rise of fast fashion has made clothing more accessible than ever, but it has also accelerated a cycle of overconsumption and waste.
At FWCC, we see another possibility.
Every donated item represents an opportunity to extend the life of a garment, reduce waste, and help someone in our community.
More Than a Fundraiser
Cowtown Catwalk isn't just a fundraising event.
It's a celebration of community generosity.
It's a reminder that secondhand does not mean second best.
It's an opportunity to showcase the incredible items that pass through our doors every day and to demonstrate how fashion can be both sustainable and accessible.
Every outfit featured on the runway has a story. Every ticket purchased helps support programs that provide clothing, food, hygiene products, diapers, pet supplies, and other essentials to North Texas families.
This isn't your grandma's fashion show.
We are every day people solving every day problems.
This will be for the people, by the people.
Our staff will be creating every look including upcycling!
These are statement pieces that you can wear or display and feel great about supporting a grassroots org.
This night is about relaxing, having a meal and watching some cool clothes walk in front of you. Nothing abstract or schmoozey about it!
This fundraiser is for you. Bring a friend and have a good time.
Join Us
We hope you'll join us on July 11 for an evening of fashion, creativity, and community impact.
Together, we can challenge the stigma around secondhand shopping, reduce waste, and ensure our neighbors have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Because when a community comes together, even a donated garment can become something extraordinary.
